Step-by-step explanation:

Let the speed of boat in still water and the speed of the river be B km/hr and R km/hr respectively, then

... (i)

(2 hours 24 minutes = 2.4 hours)

According to question

(R – B) : (R + B) = 2 : 3

⇒ 12 : (R + B) = 2 : 3

⇒ (R + B) = 18 ... (ii)

On solving equations (i) and (ii), we get

R = 15

Hence, the speed of boat in still water = 15 km/hr.
