Treated drinking water will vary, depending on source and treatment, between pH 5.0 to pH 7.0. The purer the water the closer to neutral (pH 7.0) it will be. Even highly purified water will tend to read just below 7.0 as it will contain some dissociated hydrogen ions. The pH of pure water at 100°C is 6.145.

Ph paper has only increasing and decreasing value. Water has a ph value of 7... and if the value of water increases, then water is acidic and if less than 7 means basic....
