Bombay did not experience a planned growth. The Bombay fort area was divided into 'native town' where most of the Indians lived and 'white section' where most of the Britishers lived. The industrial zone developed in the south while the simultaneous development in the suburb area in the south.
The rich parsis and muslims lived in bunglows while 70 % of the working people lived in chawls of Bombay.
The people living in chawls had to suffer the problems of sanitation, water, high rents, etc while rich people living in bunglows lived with leisure.
