[Number of electrons in bonding orbital] - [Number of electrons in anti - bonding electrons] ÷ 2

N2 bond order = 10 - 4 ÷2 =3 =N

O2 bond order =10 - 6 ÷ 2 =2=O

O2 number of electrons in bonding orbital is 9

Bond order = 9 - 6 ÷ 2 = 3 /2 = 1.5

O2 number of electrons in bonding orbital is 7

Bond order = 10 - 7 ÷ 2 = 3/2 = 1.5
