Question :

Simplify

\sf\:(p-1)(p+1)(p^2+1)(p^4+1)

Solution :

We have to Simplify

\rm\:(p-1)(p+1)(p^2+1)(p^4+1)

We know that

\sf\blue{(a+b)(a-b)=a^2-b^2}

Then ,

\sf\:(p-1)(p+1)(p^2+1)(p^4+1)

\sf=(p^2-1^2)(p^2+1)(p^4+1)

\sf=(p^2-1)(p^2+1)(p^4+1)

Again use the formula , (a+b)(a-b)=a²-b²

\sf=[(p^2)^2-(1^2)^2](p^4+1)

\sf=(p^4-1)\:(p^4+1)

Again use the formula , (a+b)(a-b)=a²-b²

\sf=[(p^4)^2-(1^4)^2]

\sf=(p^8-1)

It is the required solution !

More Formula's Related to the topic :

\sf1)\:a^2-b^2=(a+b)(a-b)

\sf2)\:(a+b)^2=a^2+b^2+2ab

\sf3)\:(a-b)^2=a^2+b^2-2ab

\sf\:4)\:(x+a)(x-b)=x^2+x(a-b)-ab
