Book review of The Prince of Egypt
Ancient Egypt is ruled by a powerful Pharaoh who is feared by all his subjects. Naturally, his sons are also arrogant and cruel and do not bother to think about the plight of the common people. The workforce consists of Hebrews who are made to work under inhuman conditions under the hot sun.
Prince Moses is the Pharaoh’s son and he has a brother – Ramses. Prince Moses gradually realises that he is the son of a Hebrew slave, fathered by the Pharaoh. It changes his mind completely and he works to emancipate the Hebrews from the Pharaoh’s tyranny.
The Prince of Egypt is written by American writer Jane Yolen (born 1939).
