Bohr's model of atom states
1. The nucleus is a positively charged body present in the centre of the atom.
2. Electrons revolve around the nucleus in circular orbits called discrete orbits or energy levels.
3. These orbits or energy levels are named as K, L, M, N, ... or numbered as 1, 2, 3, 4, ... in accordance to their increasing distance from the nucleus.
4. While revolving in a particular orbit, electrons do not radiate or absorb energy.
5. Energy is radiated or absorbed only when an electron jumps from one orbit to another.
6. When an electron moves from a higher energy level to a lower energy level (ground state), it radiates energy.
7. When an electron becomes excited (absorbs energy), it moves from a lower energy level to a higher energy level.
Usefulness
1. It explains the stability of the atom.
2. It explains the line spectrum of Hydrogen.
