Both Belgium and Sri Lankan are democratic countries but they follow different system of power sharing. In Belgium shared equal powers to all communities, i.e. French and German speaking community. However, Sri Lankan followed a system called Majoritarianism by promoting the Sinhalese which led to a civil war. For example, In the Belgium constitution prescribes that the number of Dutch and French-speaking ministers shall be equal in the Central Govt. But in Sri Lankan the govt. followed preferential policies that favoured Sinhala community.

In Belgium after the complex ethnic composition the ruler makes a good decision by dividing their power at the central and provincial government which helps Belgium to reduce the chances of conflict.
But in Sri Lanka the ruler imposed majoritarion principle which gave immense power to the majority group Sinhala. And they also declared Buddhism as the official community which became the cause of civil war in Sri Lanka.
