Both Sarika and Mohan were asked to make a salt solution. Sarika was given a teaspoonful of salt and half a glass of water, whereas Mohan was given twenty teaspoons full of salt and half a glass of water. ▪ (a) How would they make salt solutions? ▪ (b) Who would be able to prepare a saturated solution?
Answers
Explanation:
First understand the meaning of the saturated solution.
A saturated solution is a solution that has dissolved as much solute as it is capable of dissolving. In a saturated solution, no more solute can be dissolved at a given temperature.
i) The will form a saturated solution by adding salt in a glass of water by simultaneously stirring it with a spoon. Add salt in water till it gets dissolved in water. When water is unable to dissolve more salt and small amount salt remain undissolved at the bottom of the glass of water.
ii) Mohan will form saturated solution because he has more amount of salt as compared to Sarika.
Sarika will not be able form saturated solution as she had only teaspoon of salt and it will dissolve immediately in water and she had shortage of salt (solute) whereas Mohan has sufficient amount of salt to prepare a saturated solution.
