This is due to the refraction. This is because as the light rays transition and pass through the air-water interface, they get bent due to refraction. The light rays are bent away from the normal making us perceive the bottom of the pond or tank as shallow or raised.

Question :

Bottom of a tank or a pond containing water appears to be raised?why?

Answer :

⇒This is a very good example of refraction

⇒ Light moves away from the normal due to refraction

⇒ Light from the bottom of the pond undergoes change in path at the interface of air and water

⇒ Thus , refraction is a reason of when  you look at bottom of a  pond or tank  containing water appears to be raised

⇒ As a result  , the ray appear to come from a raised surface rather than the actual bottom surface of the pond or tank
