Given :  Box A contains 5 red and 3 white marbles Box b contains 2 red and 6 white marbles

To Find : if a marble is drawn from each box, what is the prob that they are of same colour

If 2 marbles are drawn from each box, what is the prob that all four marbles are of same colour

Solution:

Box A

Red = 5

White = 3

Total = 8

Box B

Red = 2

White = 6

Total = 8

a marble is drawn from each box,

probability  that they are of same colour = RR  or WW

= (5/8)(2/8)  + (3/8)(6/8)

= 10/64 + 18/64

= 28/64

= 7/16

two marbles are drawn from each box,

probability  that  all four marbles are of same colour  = RRRR  or  WWWW

= (5/8)(4/7)(2/8)(1/7)  + (3/8)(2/7)(6/8)(5/7)

= 40/(56 . 56)  + 180/(56 . 56)

= 228/(56 . 56)

= 57/784
