Correct Question:

A boy moves along the edge of a square park of side 40m and stops at the diagonally opposite end of it . Find his velocity if he takes 0.5 minutes to reach there.

Given:

  • A boy moving along the edge of square park of side 40m
  • Boy takes 0.5 min to reach at diagonally opposite end

To Find:

  • Velocity of the boy

Solution:

We know that,

↠ Length of diagonal of square= √(2)a

where,

a is the length of the edge of square

\bf{Velocity=\dfrac{Total\:Displacement}{Total\:Time\:Taken}}

Here,

\sf{Displacement\:of\:boy=Length\:of\:diagonal\:of\:square\:park}

\sf{Displacement\:of\:boy=\sqrt{2}\times40}

\sf{Displacement\:of\:boy=40\sqrt{2}m}

Also,

Time taken by boy= 0.5 min

Time taken by boy= (0.5×60)s

Time taken by boy= 30s

Now,

\sf{Velocity\:of\:boy=\dfrac{Total\:Displacement}{Total\:Time\:Taken}}

\sf{Velocity\:of\:boy=\dfrac{40\sqrt{2}}{30}}

\sf{Velocity\:of\:boy=\dfrac{4\sqrt{2}}{3}m/s}

\sf{Velocity\:of\:boy=1.88m/s}

Hence, the velocity of boy is 1.88 m/s.
