There is some error in the question....just check how can it be BP:BP equal to 1:2 and one more information must have been given that PQ is parallel to BC.

it can be right if the question says AP:BP is 1:2.

Then the question can be correct, then the diagram formed will be as given in the attachment

Then the solution will be,

Triangle ABC is similar to triangle APR by AA.

As angle A=angle A (common)

angle APQ= angle ABC (corresponding angles)

Therefore,

area of APQ/area of ABC = (AP/AB)^2

= (1/3)^2

= 1/9
