The Brahmaputra River is an antecedent river as it is older than the Himalaya that are rising since the Miocene times. The sediments from the Himalaya and the southern hills were deposited in the Assam Valley giving rise to full development of the braided pattern in recent times.

Brahmaputra is one of the major rivers in Asia. It flows through India, China and Bangladesh. It forms a braided stream near Assam because it flows with great amounts of sediments and is ranked second in sediment load. It carries sediment from Himalayas and southern hills and deposits in Assam in a braided pattern.
