Let the height be h.

Given, length of the unbroken part of the tree = 9m.

By Pythagoras theorem, we know that

AC^2 = AB^2 + BC^2

h^2 = 12^2 + 9^2

h^2 = 144 + 81

h^2 = 225

h = 15.

The length of the unbroken part of the tree = 15m.

Therefore the total length of the tree before it was broken = 15 + 9 = 24m.

Hope this helps!
