Dispersion is the separation of white light into its constituent 7 colors. (Violet,Indigo,Blue,Green,Yellow,Orange,Red termed as \bold{VIBGYOR})
Dispersion of light is seen in prisms. It is due to the fact that white light consists of 7 colors. The reason it gets dispersed in a prism include: 1. The Peculiar shape of prism,
2. Difference in refractive indices(plural of index) of various colors of light in different pair of media.
As a result of these, different colors bend at different angles, exposing themselves independently of other colors. Thanks. Hope I made you understand the concept. Ask any question if required. Have a good day!
\bold{Update:} I have attached a photo of prism above. Tomorrow in daylight I will attach another image of dispersion of sunlight.

Hope this helps
