(a)Given the resistance of the wire is R..
so when it is divised into four equal parts, the resistance of each part= R/4.
So required ratio = R/4/4 = 1 : 4.
(b)Now when each part of resistance (= R/4) is connected in parallel,
1/Rp = 1/R/4 +1/R/4 + 1/R/4 + 1 / R/4
i.e. 1/Rp = 4/R + 4/R+ 4/R +4/R
i.e. 1/Rp = 16/R
i.e. 16Rp = R.
Now the required ratio is Rp/R i.e Rp/16Rp i.e 1:16.
so when it is divised into four equal parts, the resistance of each part= R/4.
