Instantaneous speed = The average time taken by a body to cover distance is known as speed.

Instantaneous speed is a scalar quantity...

Instantaneous velocity... = The average time taken by a body to cover a distance in presence of direction is known as instantaneous velocity...

Instantaneous velocity is a vector quantity.

The difference is velocity is a vector and speed is a scalar. velocity has no meaning if direction is not known.The magnitude part of the instantaneous velocity is the instantaneous speed . The difference is same that is between velocity and speed. Velocity has direction,speed doesn't.
