The length of a lace is ( 10x -8 ) metres long. A length of ( 7x - 5) metres is

cut from it. How much lace is left?
note : X in this question is a variable

(10x-8)-(7x-5)=10x-8-7x+5

=3x-3

let the lace left be X

The length of a lace is ( 10x -8 ) metres long

A length of ( 7x - 5) metres is cut from it.

So lace left = length of the lace - length of the lace cut out

X= (10x-8)-(7x-5)

X=10x -8- 7x+5

X=3x-3

X+3 = 3x

3=3x-X

3=2x

x= 2/3

so the left length of the lace is 2/3 m
