A living organism undergoes many life processes like nutrition, respiration, digestion, transportation, excretion, circulation of blood, and reproduction. To perform all these life processes the organism needs energy and nutrients.

2. Parasite: Organisms which derive nutrition from the body of other living organisms (host) are called parasites.

examples:  Cuscuta

Saprotroph: Organisms which derive nutrition from dead and decaying matter are called saprotrophs.

examples:  mushrooms
