In other words - the form of the noun which shows the number is called the word.

1. Put vegetables in the fridge

2. Fishes swimming in the pond

3. Gardening the gardener

4. Teacher is teaching children

In these sentences the words fridge, pond, gardener, teacher are referring to their being one and the words vegetables, fish, plants, children are more than one. So here fridge, pond, gardener, teacher are singular words and Plural words of vegetables, fish, plants, children.

The form of noun which shows an object, creature or substance etc. is called singular. Such as - child, cloth, mother, book, goat, car, boy, river, cow, soldier, daughter, horse, hat, monkey , Peacock, gardener, teacher etc.

2. What is plural?

The form of noun which shows more than one thing, substances or beings, etc., is called plural. Like girls, daughters, women, horses, rivers, garlands, mothers, carts, goats, books etc.

In Hindi, singular is used for one word and plural for more than one word. Apart from these general rules, there are some other rules of word which need to be kept in mind.

1. The plural is also used for honor or respect. like-

(I) Guruji did not come today

(Ii) Papaji will go to Mumbai tomorrow

(Iii) Gandhiji was opposed to untouchability.

(Iv) Shri Ramchandra Veer was

These sentences describe a person, but the plural has been used to honor or respect it. It is called the honorable plural.

2. Signature, soul, philosophy, people, audience, news, price, senses, luck, etc. are words which are used in plurals. like -

(I) Your signature is peculiar

(Ii) People say

(Iii) your vision is rare

(Iv) your price is big

These sentences sign, people, philosophy and price are already plural.

3. Sometimes to show nobility, sometimes some people use him and I instead of him.

(I) 'We' don't remember that we ever said 'to you'

(Ii) When the father came today, he looked happy.

4. The words public, rain, oil, ghee, milk and water are used in the first singular.
