1. cholesterol which has a molar mass of 386 g/mol, is composed of 52% C, 13% H and 35% O by mass. Find its molecular formula.

Given:-

  • C = 52%.
  • H = 13%.
  • O = 35%.

To Find:-

  • Molecular Formula.

Solution:-

  \sf \large C = 52 \% =  \frac{52}{12}  = 4.33 \: moles.

 \sf \large H = 13 \% =  \frac{13}{1}  = 13 \: moles.

\sf \large O = 35 \% =  \frac{35}{16}  = 2.1875 \: moles.

\sf \large C:H:O = 4.33:13:2.1875.

 \sf \large ≈2:6:1.

\sf \large\therefore Empiried \:  Formula = (C_2 H_6 O).

\sf \large Empirical    \: mass   =[(12×2)+(6×1)+16].

 \sf \large = (24 + 6 + 16).

\sf \large = 46.

 \sf \large\therefore m =  {{ \cancel\frac{386}{46} }}≈</p><p>8.
