Brakes are applied to a train traveling at 72 km/h. After passing 200 m its velocity is reduced to 36 km/h. At the same rate of retardation how much further (in m) will it go before it is brought to rest?

Answer:

200/3 metres

Explanation

Initial velocity= 72km/h=20 m/s

distance=200 m

velocity (final)=36 km/h = 10 m/s

Applying v²- u² = 2as

100-300=2*a*200

a =-3/4

now,,

take u= 10 m/s and v=0

applying v²-u²= 2as

s=200/3 m

hope it helps..
