Post independence the urbanization accelerated in India, mainly due to the mixed economy of the country.
The private sector in the country started growing rapidly. Urban population as per the census of 1901 was 11.4% of the total population but within 100 years the percentage increased to 28.53%.
As per the census of 2011 the percentage was 30% and presently it is 31.16%. Trends and studies suggest this would increase up to 40.76% by 2030.
So, it can be well concluded that the urbanization and development of private sector are directly proportionate.
