Answer:

Length of rectangle = 57 cm

Breadth of rectangle = 14 cm

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the length and breadth of the rectangle be x and y respectively.

Given that,

y = (x/3) - 5 ------- Eq 1

And, perimeter of the rectangle = 142 cm

i.e. 2x + 2y = 142 -------- Eq 2

Putting Eq 1 in Eq 2,

2x + 2[(x/3) - 5] = 142

=> 2x + (2x/3) - 10 = 142

=> 6x + 2x - 30 = 142 * 3

=> 8x - 30 = 426

=> 8x = 426 + 30 = 456

=> x = 456/8 = 57

Substituting x=57 in Eq 1,

y = (57/3) - 5 = 19 - 5 = 14

Length of the rectangle is 57 cm and breadth of the rectangle is 14 cm.
