Brian, Pip and Sara share some sweets in the ratio 4:2:1. Brian gets 45 more sweets than Sara. How many sweets are there altogether?

Answer:

Let the number of sweets Brian got be 4x

Therefore number of sweets Pip got will be 5x

Therefore number of sweets Sara got will be x

We know, Brain got 42 more sweets then Sara

Therefore, x + 42 = 4x

42 = 4x - x

42 = 3x

x = 42/3

x = 14

Therefore the number if sweets Pip will be getting

= 5x

= 5 * 14

=70
