The total number of days Brian had the book is 12

Solution:

The following data is given to us.

Shop charges 2$ for first day and 3$ per day from second day onwards. Brian took more than 2 days to return the book and he paid 35$ while returning the book.

Since the charge for the first day is different from that of the consecutive days, we can formulate an equation to solve this question as follows:

The final amount paid by Brian is $35.

Let us consider ‘x’ to be the number of days Brian had the book after the first day.

So,

2 + 3x = 35

3x = 35-2

3x = 33

x = 11

Therefore, Brian had the book for 11 days after the first day.

Hence the total number of days Brian had the book for is 12.
