Answer:

tenths:

154- since the no. near to 5 is 4 it will be rounded down so it will be 150

139-since the no. near to 3 is 9 it will be rounded up so it will be 140

so 140 + 150= 290

hundreds:

154-since the no. near to 1 is 54 it will be rounded up so it will be 200

139-since the no. near to 1 is 39 it will be rounded down so it will be 100

so 200 + 100 = 300

Brian sold 154 boxes of cookies and 139 boxes of brownie in order to get the closest number of items sold does he estimate to the nearest hundredths or tenths

154 boxes of cookies  will be rounded to nearest tenth = 150

139 boxes of brownie will be rounded to nearest tenth = 140

∴ the closest number of items will be ( 150 + 140 ) = 290

now:-

154 boxes of cookies  will be rounded to nearest hundredths = 200

139 boxes of brownie will be rounded to nearest hundredths = 100

∴ the closest number of items will be (200 + 100 ) = 300

Ans :- the closest number of orders will be 290 ( tenths) and 300 ( hundredths ).
