Given : Brian spins a fair spinner numbered 1 to 5 and  flips a fair coin.

To Find : What is the probability of obtaining a 2 and a head?

Solution:

Brian spins a fair spinner numbered 1 to 5

Total possible outcomes = 5

 flips a fair coin.

Possible outcomes = 2

Total Possible outcomes = 5 x 2  = 10

n(S) = 10

E  = probability of obtaining a 2 and a head  =  ( 2 , H)

n(E) = 1

probability of obtaining a 2 and a head  = n(E)/n(S)

= 1/10

probability of obtaining a 2 and a head = 1/10
