Helen's father Arthur Keller had been a captain in the Confederate army.Helen's mother,kate was Arthur's second wife,and he was much older than she was.Helen describes him as "loving and indulgent,devoted to his home,seldom leaving us, except in hunting season."He was a hospitable man who enjoyed bringing guests home to see his garden.

helen's father's name was Arthur Henry Keller...he was a captain of a confederate army....he was the editor of the north alabamian newspaper and marshal of alabama...he was brave and respected citizen...he was loving and indulgent and quite close to his family...he loved hunting...he was very kind hearted and seldom came home without bringing a guest....he loved nature very much...he had a big garden where he grew strawberries and other fruits and vegetables...he connected helen with nature...even though she was handicapped he did not let her feel so....he died of heart attack when helen was sixteen years old..
