George is the quietest and most practical of the three friends. He works in a bank in the city. He’s very sensible and his suggestions are generally accepted and carried out by Harris and the narrator.
Like J. and Harris, he complains of ailments, but in fact it is only his imagination. He has a good appetite and eats well.
He agrees with his friends that their depression and ill health have been brought on by overwork, and they need rest. George remarks that the overstrain upon their brains had produced the depression.
George makes a very wise and sensible observation about living happily in life. When they discuss what things to take on their boating trip, George says that they must not think of the things they can do with, but only of the things they couldn’t do without. They must not overload their boat. He also suggests that they wouldn’t take a tent but a boat with a cover because it is so much simpler and more comfortable. He is also against carrying an oil stove on the boat because oil oozes down and its odour spoils everything. George like the other two, proves to be no good at packing, and the butter incident adds much to the packing episode.

George is particular about his looks. He does not like to go to the city without shaving.  The narrator thinks that he has no sense of colour. Like the other friends, George narrates a few funny anecdotes, especially one about his father who went to bed with one of his friends and how they pushed each other out without actually knowing what they did.

George was a clerk of Barclays Bank in the Strand..He was rather an introvert and had a penchant for sleeping during the day, mostly during the working hours of his bank.He tries to solve the problems and was the most sensible man among the three of them.He is very economical and has a practical approach to life.He is brave but he always wants to be in safe side and be careful.Throughout the story,he is generally the one who takes decisions.
