Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies, usually as a result of human activities. Water bodies include for example lakes, rivers, oceans, aquifers and groundwater. Water pollution results when contaminants are introduced into the natural environment.

water pollution is defined as the mixing of unwanted substances like sewage, chemicals from industry, etc. in water resources. Some causes of water pollution are disposal of sewage, mixing chemicals into water resources, discharge of radioactive wastes from nuclear reactors, etc. Various effects of the water pollution are causes water borne diseases like cholera, typhoid, jaundice, etc. It imbalances the ecosystem, if polluted water is used for irrigation, it degrades the quality of soil.
