Even on a clear day, water vapour exsists in the atmosphere as an invisible gas - unlike clouds which are droplets of liquid water that can be seen. If the conditions are right, water vapour in the air can collect on small particles of dust, salt, smoke in the air to form small droplets

Correct Question : Briefly describe how you will prove the presence of water vapour in air.

Take the example of cold water glass to prove the presence of water vapour in air. When the air come in contact with the outer surface of cold glass, the water vapours present in air lose heat energy and gets converted into water droplets on the outer surface of cold glass. This shows that water vapours are present in air which after condensation changes into water droplets on the outer surface of cold water glass.

Additional information:

  • The process of changing of gas into liquid is called condensation.
  • Clouds are also formed due to condensation.
  • The water droplets we see in the plate which is placed above the boiling water is also an example of condensation.
  • The fog like thing that comes out from mouth and nose in winters also shows that water vapours are present in air .
