The main causes for the rise of new religious sects are

  • the dominance of the priestly class.  
  • from the later Vedic time the religion had lost its inner substance because of the strict religious ideology and rituals .All these rituals , sacrifices were not liked by the people . The Brahmanas  have full monopoly over the religion and destroyed the morality of the Hindu religion in the form of sacrifices, various ceremonies and unnecessary practices.
  • the social system was very oppressive especially for the lower classes. Untouchability was practiced . The lower class people lived a very degrading life.
