The Puritans was considered to be the name that was given during the 16th century to the very extreme Protestants inside the Church of England for those who thought that the English Reformation did not attempt to go far enough in the process reforming the doctrines and the structure of their church.
They had wanted to purify the national church by undertaking the process of eliminating the Catholic influence.
