For clarity, the original effect is sometimes called the ordinary Hall effect to distinguish it from other "Hall effects" which have different physical mechanisms.

The physical origin of the hall effect:

  • In 1879, the Hall Effect was developed by Edwin Herbert Hall
  • When a current-carrying conductor or a semiconductor is exposed to a perpendicular magnetic field, the Hall Effect asserts that a voltage can be measured at a right angle to the current direction.
  • The Hall Effect is a method of obtaining a quantifiable voltage.
