Loss of Habitat and Habitat Alteration: As the human population grows, space becomes a premium and with less space being available in cities and towns, the next best thing to do is to encroach on to forest / wild land. Habitat alteration occurs from other invasive activities like over grazing which results in depletion of foliage. Some of the other causes for habitat depletion are: Animal agriculture (forests are cleared to grow fodder); crop agriculture, suburban/rural expansion, commercial activities like logging, mining, road constructions etc. Each one of these have their direct and indirect role in the decline of populations of various species of flora and fauna.
Human Animal Conflict: is a direct result of habitat destruction where the animals wander into human habitation in search of prey and thus ends up being killed.
Poaching and Hunting: Poaching has been a long time enemy of wildlife conservation. The false belief that some animal parts may help you perform better in bed or that it could cure certain ailments has led to the extinction of many species and driving a lot more to being critically endangered. A very good example of this is the Black Rhinoceros and this iconic image of armed guards with what possibly could be the last male on earth. Another example is the Tiger.
