Factors of Soil Formation :
------------------------------------------------------

Relief, parent rock, climate , vegetation and time are important factors in soil formation. Various forces of nature, such as change in temperature, amount of rainfall, Humidity, action of running water, wind, and activities of decomposers contribute to the Formation of Soil.

• Climate : Rainfall and temperature influence rate of humans and weathering .

• Organisation : i.e :- Microorganisms and vegetation affect the rate of humus formation.

• Relief : Altitude and slope determine the accumulation of Soil.

• Parent Rock : It determines , colour, texture, chemical properties, mineral centent and permeability of Soil.

• Time : It determines thickness of Soil profile.

Through five main factors: time, parental material, climate, precipitation, substrate, topographical and organsims  soils are formed. Each factor has different effects, but the combination of all five factors usually determines the form of soil that develops anywhere

Explanation:

  • Parental Material: It is deposited by streams or by weathering on the spot. In this process, the soil is the legacy of many characteristics such as minerals, colour, particle sizes and chemical elements. For examples, Black soil has a lava rock colour
  • Climate and Role of precipitation: Climate  is a key factor in soil production because it influences the weathering quality of the parent rock. . The soil composition was influenced by the variability of the precipitation. For example-low rainfall areas with a high evaporation rate resulted in salt build-up in the soil. Because of the extensive leaching of the soils underlying tropical rainforests, they are often nutrient-poor.
  • Flora, Fauna and Microorganisms (Bioita): Biota modifies the parent soil in accordance with the atmosphere. Types of legumes-Nitrogen-fixing bacteria occur in plants (for example beans or peas, and groundnuts). The nitrate ions are obtained by the plants from these bacteria that fix nitrogen. Through binding atmospheric nitrogen on ammonia or ammonium, it increases soil fertility.
  • Topography (Slope, Altitude and Relief): It is a passive factor in modify he impacts of climate because it influences soil cycles, nutrient quality and plant species.
  • Time: The formation of the soil is not one day process but requires many years to form. Younger soils have certain properties from their parent material, but organic matter addition, moisture exposure and other environmental factors may alter their characteristics as they age .
