Ammonium cyanide is an unstable inorganic compound with the formula NH4CN.

Initially, the basic idea of organic compounds was that it was formed naturally and synthesized  by living organisms. While inorganic compounds were synthesized in vitro . Most ionic compound were told to be ionic.

Naturally, sodium cyanide is ionic. Early chemist obtained cyanide from cyanide sources and add sodium to it to obtain sodium cyanide, thereby classifying it as inorganic.
