Answer:

Most air pollution, harmful gases and particles in the air, affecting national parks is created outside park boundaries.

Types of Sources

There are four main types of air pollution sources:

mobile sources – such as cars, buses, planes, trucks, and trains

stationary sources – such as power plants, oil refineries, industrial facilities, and factories

area sources – such as agricultural areas, cities, and wood burning fireplaces

natural sources – such as wind-blown dust, wildfires, and volcanoes

Pollution from human-generated and natural sources is often created in one place and transported through the air. Sometimes chemical reactions in the atmosphere change pollutants before they are deposited. Pollutants in the air can create haze, making it harder to see, and pollutant deposition can have biological effects. NPS areas experience these effects just like other places. Location and even the time of year can determine which pollution sources are most important to each park

AIR POLLUTION : Air pollution is the presence of substances in the atmosphere that are harmful to the health of humans and other living beings, or cause damage to the climate or to materials.

MAJOR SOURCES OF AIR POLLUTION :

1.  Agriculture  : Agricultural pollution also leads to air pollution. Many machines such as tractors or harvesters used for tilling, harvesting, and other farm activities emit harmful greenhouse gases like CO2 by combusting fossil fuel, which, in turn, can lead to global warming. Agriculture is a major contributor to methane (80%) (CH4) and ammonia (90%) (NH3). But methane makes up about 9% of total emissions, whereas CO2 makes up about 82%.

2. Industry  : The various industries causing pollution are the mining and metallurgical industries, power   generating plants, manufacturing factories, processing industries, etc.

The main processes causing pollution are

→  Burning of coal and other fossil fuels like oil, petroleum, natural gas.

→ Use of chemical solvents in tanning and dyeing industries and others.

→ Release of untreated gaseous and liquid wastes into the environment.

→ Incorrect disposal of radioactive wastes.

3. Vehicles  :  Vehicles introduce toxic materials into the atmosphere through different ways. Vehicles burn fuel, that is petrol, diesel or alternative energy, to power their engines and move. This is a process that yields harmful greenhouse gases that are very dangerous to the environment. The emission of these pollutants has several far-reaching effects. Sometimes when it’s hot, fuel evaporates from the fuel tank and into the atmosphere.

4. Electricity  : Electricity does pollution in many ways. Electricity doesn't pollute directly, it helps other machines to pollute. For eg: Electricity is used for many appliances, which may malfunction and catch fire, leading into many other problems. A common method of generating electricity is to burl fossil fuels. Burning fossil fuels can cause pollution.

5. Natural disasters : Natural disasters in urban areas trigger technological accidents Industries and storage sites can see damages to pipelines, storage tanks, and processing equipment which can, in turn, result in the release of hazardous materials. Standing water attracts microbial bacteria. When floods affect residential areas where people are exposed to the air around them, the bacteria can be dispersed by the wind and inhaled by those living in the vicinity.
