Leguminous plants like peas, beans have nodules in their roots that harbour nitrogen fixing bacteria called Rhizobium. They help to convert the insoluble nitrogen from the atmosphere into soluble nitrogen and helps plants to absorb them or supply them. The leguminous plants in turn provide shelter and food to these Rhizobium bacteria and thus they work in harmony. This is called symbiotic relationship. Thus they survive under mutual consent and understanding where one defeciency is covered by another.
