briefly explain how you measure the volume of an irregular object with the help of a diagram
Answers
- The mass you can measure on a balance or a scale, and the volume is the amount of space the object occupies. You can find the volume of an irregular object by immersing it in water in a beaker or other container with volume markings, and by seeing how much the level goes up
- Archimedes had found an easy way to measure the volume of an irregularly shaped object. If you submerge the object in water, it will displace a volume of water equal to its own volume. He could use this method to find the volume, and thus the density of the crown.
- To find the volume of a rectangular object, measure the length, width and height. Multiply the length times the width and multiply the result by the height. The result is the volume.

A.I.M :-
To find the volume of a irregular object
Materials required :-
- Measuring cylinder
- Stone
- Thread
- Note book
- Marker
Procedure :-
1. Take a measuring cylinder and pour some water into it .
2. Try, to pour water untill a certain level in that measuring cylinder .
3. Now, take an irregular stone and tie it with a strong thread
4. Then note the reading of the volume of the water in the measuring cylinder as v1
5. Similarly, mark the level of the water with a marker .
6. Now, take the stone which is tied to the thred and immerse it into the measuring cylinder .
7. When the stone get's immersed in the measuring cylinder the water level in the measuring cylinder rises .
8. Note the readings of the water level in ypur notebook as v2
9. Now, you need to perform some calculations that is ;
10. Volume of the irregular object = v2 - v1
11. Using this formula we can find the volume of any irregular object
12. Thus , the volume of the stone is calculated by performing above lab activity
Conclusion :-
This activity can be performed using overflown beaker too.
While using that beaker the water which got displaced will get overflowed . That volume of the overflown water is the volume of that irregular solid .
This activity can be demonstrated or used to find the volume of a solid ( not liquid , gas ) .
Precautions :-
Some precautions which should be taken while performing such experiments are ;
1. You need to take a solid object only .
2. The readings should be recorded carefully .
3. perform the experiment twice or thrice to conclude that your conclusion from the experiment is 100% correct .
