Reason of empty treasure when Louis XVI ascended the throne are :-
- long years of war had drained the financial resources of france.
- there was also the cost of maintaining the extravagant court at versailles.
- under louis XVI france had also helped 13 American colonies to gain their independence from the common eneny britain. this added more than 2 livres to a debt that had already risen mire than 2 livres. This all contributed to the empty treasure of france . Hope this is going to help u.

In 1774, Louis XVI of the Bourbon family of kings ascended the throne of France. He recognised that the treasury was empty.
- ☆ Long years of war with the common enemy England had drained away the financial resources of France, when France helped the 13 American Colonies to gain their independence from Britain under Louis XVI.
- ☆ The France provided the Americans with military help and even financial assistance, but the French economy suffered a lot with this.
- ☆ The war with Britain added 1 billion livres to the actual debt of 2 billion livres.
- ☆ The king's court at the immense palace of Versailles was extravagant, and to run libraries, courts, government offices a huge amount of money is required.
- ☆ Taxes were only lieved for third estate who are small peasants, art workers, business man etc by both government and clergy.
- ☆ And Free off Taxes for the first and second estate who are rich and high position.
- ☆ Lenders who had given the state credit, now begin to extend 10 percent intrest on existing loan.
So the French government had to spend an increase percentage of it's budget on intrest payment.
