Briefly explain the condition of plantation workers during colonial rule

1) Tribals who used to live in the forests were forced to serve in plantations, when they were barred from living in the forest.
2) Often labour was also bought in from lower plains to the hills as indentured labour.
3) Plantation workers were not allowed to leave the tea garden without permission.
4) Both the police and the plantation owners beat the workers regularly.
