Briefly explain the new forms of publication in the 19th century

In the late 19th century, Western publication methods and mechanical presses were introduced in China as a result of the establishment of Western powers outposts in China. Thereon, Shanghai became the hub of the new print culture, provisioning to the western school. The new forms of publication in the 19th century are the following:

1. For the publishing houses, the production of textbooks became crucial.  

2. Women also took interest in reading novels and magazines. Over a course of time, they began writing their own novels.  

3. The introduction of the serialized novel enabled readers to enjoy the suspense, consider the charac-ters of a story and live for weeks with their novel.
