The polity and religion of Aryans:
- The Aryan’s are believed to have crossed the river Indus and settled in the northern part of the Indian subcontinent.
- Initially, the Aryans formed friendly alliances with the then rulers of the subcontinent which ruled small regions with the help of their clans.
- It is said that Aryans crossed the Indus River as traders from Iran and Afghanistan and came here to find out that the northern plains of Ganga river were sparsely populated and suitable for agriculture and other economic purposes.
- The lived in small settlements and family was the smallest unit of the society.
- Every settlement had a head who looked after the governance of the larger units made up of several families.
- Aryans were religious in nature and Worshipped Lord Shiva in various forms.
- Their deities of worship included both animate and inanimate things.
- The way of living that Aryans followed later became their religion which came to be known as the ‘Hindu’ religion.
