Political competition makes the different political parties keep a check on each other, which prevents corruption on the large scale, and in the long run, doesn't let any party turn to absolute controlling measures. However, political competition also makes the parties follow illegal means to win election, like bribing the people to vote, threatening the poor, or using their association with a particular religion, caste, or community to their benefits, etc.
