Answer:

Information technology is the use of computers to create, process, store, retrieve, and exchange all kinds of data and information. IT is typically used within context of business operations as opposed to personal or any entertainment technologies. IT forms part of the information and communications technology . An information technology system is generally an information system, the communications system, or, more specifically speaking, the computer system — including all hardware, software, and the peripheral equipment — operated by the limited group of IT users.

Humans have been storing, manipulating, and communicating information since Sumerians in Mesopotamia developed writing in about 3000 BC. However, term information technology in its modern sense first appeared in the 1958 article published in Harvard Business Review; authors Harold J. Leavitt and the Thomas L. Whisler commented "the new technology does not yet have single established name." Their definition consists of four categories: techniques for processing, the application of statistical and the mathematical methods to decision-making, and simulation of higher-order thinking through computer programs.
