Actually the British came to India for trade purpose. But it had many rivalries they led to military conflict. Being a naval superior, the British eventually won all the fights. These conflicts with the traders made the British fight against the local rulers. In order to backup their trade, the British started interfere in the domestic affairs and politics. Slowly the British stated to weaken the Indian kingdoms. Their military and scientific superiority helped in this process. Finally through annexation or vassalship, the British became the head of the economic and political affairs in India.
