The three different methods of sexual reproduction in algae :
- Isogamous :
It is the sexual reproduction in which fusion of gametes of similar size takes place. The gametes may be falgellated or non flagellated.
Ex : Ulothrix and Spirogyra.
- Anisogamous :
It is the sexual reproduction in which fusion of two gametes that are dissimilar in size takes place.
Ex : Eudornia.
- Oogamous :
It is the sexual reproduction in which fusion of two gametes that are dissimilar in size takes place. The female gamete is is large and non motile where is the male gamete is smaller and motile.
Ex : Volvox and Fucus.
Algae can also reproduce asexually or by vegetative reproduction.
